Copper Care
A note from Mae & Rose
Your Copper Can Last a Lifetime. Here’s How.
Pure copper is different from most jewelry. It naturally reacts with the air, your skin, and the life you live while wearing it.
Over time, your copper may darken and develop a deeper, richer color known as a patina. Some people love this aged look, while others prefer the warm, bright shine of new copper.
Both are completely natural. There’s no right or wrong way to wear it.
How to Clean Your Copper
If you prefer your copper bright and polished, you don’t need any special jewelry cleaner.
Lemon & Salt
Cut a lemon in half, add a little salt, and gently rub it over the copper for 30–60 seconds. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and dry immediately with a soft cloth.
White Vinegar & Salt
For heavier tarnish, mix white vinegar with a small amount of salt and let your copper soak for 15–30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately.
Baking Soda & Lemon
For detailed pieces, mix baking soda and lemon juice into a soft paste. Apply gently with a soft cloth or toothbrush, then rinse and dry.
And sometimes, the simplest care is simply to wear it. The natural oils from your skin can help keep the surface looking polished.
What to Avoid
To keep your copper looking its best, avoid prolonged contact with chlorine, saltwater, bleach, harsh soaps, perfume, chemical cleaners, and toothpaste.
When in doubt, take your jewelry off before swimming or applying lotions and perfumes, then put it back on afterward.
About the Green Mark
Pure copper can sometimes leave a faint green or bluish-green mark on your skin. This is a natural reaction between copper, moisture, and your skin’s chemistry.
It’s temporary and normally washes away easily with soap and water. Some people experience it more than others.
Because Mae & Rose pieces are made from 99.9% pure copper, natural changes in both the jewelry and your skin can simply be part of wearing real copper.
Storing Your Copper
When you’re not wearing your jewelry, make sure it’s completely dry before storing it. Keep it in a dry pouch or airtight bag and away from humid areas such as bathrooms.
If possible, store your pieces separately to prevent scratching.
Don’t worry about keeping your copper perfect.
Real copper changes with time. It may darken, develop a patina, or need a little polish every now and then. That’s simply part of its character.
Wear it, let it age, and clean it whenever you want that bright copper shine back.
With love,
Mae & Rose
